Frequently asked questions about Double Solitaire
Is Double Solitaire played by two people?
No, the app is single-player. "Double" means two decks of cards shuffled together, 104 cards in all. The same name is also used for a two-player game, which the app does not offer.
Why eight foundations?
Every card exists twice, so there are 2 foundations per suit, 8 in all. In the app, each suit has its own row of two spots; an ace goes on an empty spot in its row, then each foundation builds up to the king.
Drawing one card or three: what's the difference?
In draw 1, each card in the stock comes to the waste in turn and can be played. In draw 3, the app turns over three cards at a time and only the top one can be played. The same deal was won in 248 actions with draw 1 (DS1-D1N-AAAAABA) and in 234 with draw 3 (DS1-D3N-AAAAABA).
How does Vegas mode work?
The score starts at -$104 and each card placed on a foundation earns $5; nothing else counts. You go through the stock only once: the waste is not recycled. A game won without taking any card back from a foundation therefore ends at $416.
What does the game code mean?
The code, for example DS1-D1N-AAAAAAB, identifies a specific deal. D1 or D3 shows the draw, N or V shows Normal or Vegas scoring, and the last 7 characters identify the shuffle. In the New Game window, choose "Load a game using a code" and paste it: you get the same deal on any device.
What can be placed on an empty column?
Only a king, alone or with the cards placed on it. Any other card is refused, even if moving it would uncover a face-down card.
How many points does a game earn in Normal mode?
A card placed on a foundation earns 10 points, a card turned face up 5, a card from the waste placed on the tableau 5; each recycle costs 100 points, without going below zero. The 104 cards on the foundations and the 36 turned-over cards already add up to 1220 points in any game won without taking cards back from a foundation. The game on the Examples page ends at 1160 points.
Can you undo a move or take a card back from a foundation?
Yes to both. The app keeps the last 200 actions, and undoing also removes the points from the undone move. You can also drag the top card of a foundation back to the tableau, without gaining or losing points.
